✅ These are your natural tissues and structures that envelop and support the teeth in the oral cavity - gums, bone, ligaments and tooth cementum.
What is periodontitis?
✅ It is also known as a disease of the tissues that hold the teeth. The gums and bones surrounding the teeth are severely affected, and the untreated condition eventually leads to the loss of your teeth.
What causes periodontal disease? 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤔
✅Periontitis is caused by bacteria that are normally present in saliva. Bacteria attach to the tooth surface around the gums and form plaque. This is a "sticky white substance" that can be scraped off with a fingernail. If the plaque is not removed effectively within twelve hours, it hardens and tartar forms. It is porous and retains even more plaque with its bacteria and thus causes irritation (inflammation) of the gums.
Diabetes, tobacco use, stress and genetic predisposition increase the chances of developing gum disease and can make it worse.
